OK… WHO HAS THE PHONE??? Keith, where did you leave it? Why is it I always have to search for the phone, and WHY can’t you just put it back in the CHARGER???”
In one form or another, that little outburst resounds through my house, almost daily. Not enough phones to fill the hands, and too many places for the phone to be left to or in.
Worse than that: I could at the moment be writing or working on a project, and would have to jump up to look at the caller ID to see if it MUST be answered, or if it is a call I can return later. ( I have one relative, who tends to be a bit on the chatty side, and while I love her dearly, sometimes I am deeply in the middle of something ot on my way out the door. )
As the occupants of my home grow, we have found that we all develop new, interesting, and involving aspects of our lives. The answering machine and cordless phone of yesterday just don’t cut it. Unfortunately, Niko’s search for the American Dream, and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the “rags to riches” story spun to pique Niko’s interest by the scheming Roman is exposed, not only as a complete fabrication, but also as a ploy to enlist Niko’s well-known skills as a tough guy, to battle against the ample enemies clamoring for cousin Roman’s debt-ridden blood.
As the duo slip deep into debt, and are dragged into a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.
Despite the deception, and because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City, Niko begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman’s protector. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined. He attains knowledge and experience untold, as he fights for survival (and later, supremacy) on the crime- riddled streets of Liberty City.
Game Environments - Based on the infamous Five Boroughs Area, Liberty City is a familiar site to players of previous games within the series. for GTA IV, Liberty City has been entirely redesigned.
Players can expect visible detail, right down to the weeds growing up in the sidewalk, a broader array cars and buildings of visibly different ages and a much greater level of verticality in the buildings and bridges, meaning that you are able to explore them in depth, as Niko moves through the city streets.
In addition, pedestrians in GTA IV are much more life-like. No more moving static cardboard cutouts, these NPCs are intelligent, modern, anthropomorphic representations that laugh, cry, eat, drink, use cell phones and communicate amongst themselves, regardless of Niko’s interactions.
Gameplay - Historically GTA games are focused heavily on mission-based play, meaning the requiring of successful completion of fixed tasks, in order for players to progress through the game.
This has changed to a great extent in GTA IV. Players experience an entirely new and thrilling emphasis centered in a mix of both on-mission and off-mission play. Not only does this result in an increased sense of realism, but infinitely more interesting and unrestricted gameplay.
